The Manager, IT Infrastructure and Systems is a newly created role with a mandate to deeply understand and anticipate current and future business needs and to design, select, implement and operate the IT infrastructure and systems necessary to meet existing and emerging needs both at the corporate level and across the community of franchised A&W restaurants. The Manager, IT Infrastructure and Systems is responsible for building, developing and engaging a high-performing, IT team that is technically sound, forward-thinking, proactive, available, solutions-oriented and that delivers quality service valued by internal users and restaurant guests. This position is responsible for supporting internal partners and franchisees to articulate, develop and roll out an IT Strategy at the corporate and restaurant levels. As the right hand to the Senior Director, Information Technology, the Manager, IT Infrastructure and Systems is responsible for ensuring that the IT infrastructure, systems, policies and work processes that flow from the IT Strategy are scalable, sustainable and promote data access and integration, timely decision-making for the business and effective communication with guests. The position provides direction as to what infrastructure and systems are best suited to meet existing and emerging business needs. The Manager, IT Infrastructure and Systems helps identify resource requirements for IT and works with a wide range of stakeholders to secure needed investment for IT.
Based at A&W’s Corporate Home Office in North Vancouver, the Manager, IT Infrastructure and Systems reports to the Senior Director, Information Technology. Currently, there are 5 direct reports to the Manager, IT Infrastructure and Technology: the Network Systems Manager; the Network Administrator; the Restaurant Technology Support Administrator; and two Help Desk Support Technicians. The Manager, IT Infrastructure and Systems works closely with a broad array of internal colleagues at all levels of the company as well as with franchisees and external partners.
The candidate must be a proven technical guru and exceptional people manager who can lead change in a generative, enduring way in a highly collaborative culture that puts guests first and that respects teamwork, enquiry, listening and internal solutions in favour of external fixes. With an approachable, down-to-earth style and the ability to use plain language to communicate about technology, the person must possess strong knowledge of IT infrastructure and systems, including networks, hosting, authentication, security, systems management, service continuity, and systems development. With the proven capacity to build and deploy highly skilled, responsive, proactive and service-oriented IT teams, the candidate must be able to see the big picture and to dive into details when appropriate and needed.
With a genuine interest in the restaurant sector and a creative, common-sense approach as to how IT can best serve the A&W brand, the candidate must be discerning and able to implement technologies and systems that move the brand forward in delivering exceptional guest experiences at the restaurant level in settings dispersed across the country. With excellent problem-solving, financial management, project management and influencing skills, the candidate must have at least 5 years of experience in progressively more senior IT leadership roles and strong knowledge of the key elements of the technical aspects of a large-scare IT operation. With the finesse and courage to constructively challenge the status quo and the ability to work with others to create and implement plans to realize change, the candidate must be a confident, calm and thoughtful leader and player who wishes to add value to one of Canada’s most loved brands for years to come. The ideal candidate has completed at least an undergraduate degree in business or technology. Ideally resident in the Lower Mainland, the candidate must have high integrity, sound judgment and excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
